(really simple syndication)
   Le format RSS (really simple syndication) est un format de syndication du contenu web. Ce format permet aux webmestres de diffuser le nouveau contenu présent sur leur site pour lecture par un agrégateur. Pour un site de presse, ces informations comprennent par exemple les titres des articles avec un descriptif court et leur URL (uniform resource locator). Ces informations sont ensuite consultables en utilisant un agrégateur, à savoir un logiciel de lecture permettant de consulter simultanément les données RSS d’un grand nombre de sources. Le sigle RSS signifiait à l’origine "rich site summary", puis "RDF site summary" (RDF: resource description framework) avant de devenir "really simple syndication". Le RDF (resource description framework) est un cadre procuré par le W3C (World Wide Web Consortium) pour certaines applications au format XML (extensible markup language), dont le RSS (really simple syndication).
